Steuben County Emergency Medical Services Corps
The Steuben County Emergency Medical Services Corps was formed by Rural Health Community Systems, Inc. to encourage focus, knowledge, and resources to promote healthy youth activities and in the long run, help develop a cadre or future crew members of Volunteer EMS personnel in Steuben County. This endeavor also gives our youth a chance to experience possible career paths.
The Steuben County Emergency Medical Services Corps is for teens, 14 to 17 years old, who want to explore and learn about the emergency medical field and prehospital care. The youth corps members will receive significant training in CPR, AED (automatic external defibrillation), and First Aid. These teens will learn hands-on knowledge of how to respond to, cope with, and/or prevent emergencies. Youth Corps participants will also be given the opportunity to join a local volunteer EMS agency, as a junior member.
It is the network's hope that these young people will be given a frank and positive experience. They will see the emergency medical field in a new light and develop positive ongoing relationships with great mentors in their lives.
Rural Health Community Systems, Inc. has as its goal, simply to help foster an interest for emergency medical services in youth. This affirmative experience might motivate some to continue on with their education and give back to their communities.
